I photographed large mats of floating water hyacinths on an Amazon river tributary. The typical (in US) water hyacinth with purple flowers was in a minority, with small populations mixed into edges of the dominant hyacinth, which is a much larger plant with white flowers. I the abundant larger, white-flowered hyacinth Eichhornia diversifolia or perhaps E. heterosperma?

I would like to know at what water temperature the E.Crassipes seed is completely sterile. It's possible for example that a 95 deg. Celsius water for 3 minutes to damage for good the seed's enzymes and to make it sterile. Has anyone tried this ? What's the minimal time and temperature ?

I have looked up the genus species name for Pickerel Rush, and it is shown to be Pontederia cordata, also. Do you agree?
